The Micah Challenge - Faith demands action
“Love and business and family and religion and art and patriotism are nothing but shadows of words when a man's starving. 'O. Henry, Heart of the West, 1907”
The above quote summarises the vision of the Micah movement, a coming together of people, (Christian leaders, institutions and charity organisations) all over the world, who have taken up the challenge laid down by the Old Testament prophet Micah, to speak out against the injustice of global poverty. The prophet declared God's anger with social sin – the constantly present economic, legal and social corruption that plagued the country during his time.
Micah challenge has collectively written a reminder letter to world leaders about their signed promises of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), to “free men, women and children from the conditions of extreme poverty,” by 2015. Place of Victory for all Nations joined in with other Christians in Swansea to glorify God and pray for our city. The signature event was held at the Elim City Temple Swansea on the 10.10.10 based on the theme; Prayer, promise and justice.
The meeting started with worship was led by Joel Pridmore, followed by Mandy Harvey giving information of what Swansea Hope is all about. Brian Farr gave a message of hope that all Christians had a responsibility to remove oppression in our city. We all stood up together to took a picture with our hands lifted up in unity against poverty. The picture was sent to Parliament as solidatiry amongst Christians to stop poverty. The meeting concluded with everyone sharing the body and blood of Christ together in fellowship.
